This is one of the organizations that brings me the most joy. WriteGirl was awarded the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award by First Lady Michelle Obama. And whenever WriteGirl asks me to help, I feel so honored and grateful. As writers, we think our work might do some good in the world–we hope it does. But whenever it’s with WriteGirl, it’s not even about that. It’s just doing what we can to give these young writers agency over their voices, and aware of not just how beautiful, but how powerful, insightful, and necessary they are.
