September 23–a retrospective! Keynote at the Southern California Writers Conference.

Books and Publications, Community, Readings and Events / Monday, November 3rd, 2014

Okay! Now I am finally able to get this right! On September 23, 2014,  I gave a keynote talk to the Southern California Writers Conference. Not only that, but I led a workshop on the proper use of dialect. I was thrilled to take part in this. Whether one is a literary writer or a trans writer or queer writer or an Asian-American writer, one is always a writer. Thank you to the staff and directors of the conference for recognizing this. It was wonderful to be with so many people just talking about writing. This does not mean that I would forget my other identities, but in order to bring my best writing wherever I go–I have to work on it. And that is best done with other writers and editors.

The journey to publication started just a few years ago, and now, to speak in front of other writers–simply about being a writer… This was special.

Thank you to Michael Steven Gregory, Wes Albers, Cricket Abbot, and Melanie Hooks for being so friendly and reaching out to me. Special thanks, as always, to my amazing editor, Jean Jenkins. Thank you to Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore for handling sales. And a shout out to Ara and Ravi and Stacey.:D
